From Midfield to Music: Alex Iwobi Steps Into the Studio With His First Album

The Fulham midfielder has officially announced his debut EP, “More To Life,” slated for release on April 9, 2026. Fans across Nigeria and beyond are buzzing with excitement, eager to hear how the Super Eagles star will translate his on-field flair into music. While Iwobi has long been celebrated for his energy, vision, and creativity on the football field, he is now channelling that same artistry into music. “More To Life” is a 9-track EP designed to showcase not just his musical talent, but also his personal journey and versatility as a multi-dimensional creative.

Collaborations are one of the most anticipated aspects of the project. Iwobi has teamed up with popular artists like Fido, Giddi, 24AM, and SPKS, promising a mix of high-energy Afrobeats, Afro-fusion grooves, and soulful tracks that balance introspection with mainstream appeal. Each featured artist brings a unique flavour, ensuring the EP appeals to a wide audience, from hardcore Afrobeats fans to casual listeners curious about a footballer stepping into music.

The choice of the alias “17” reflects a personal connection, a subtle nod to his jersey number and identity as an athlete exploring life beyond football. Fans are already speculating about how this dual identity will influence the EP’s lyrics, sound, and overall vibe. Early teasers hint at themes of personal growth, resilience, and the idea that there truly is “more to life” than what meets the eye.

Social media is already alive with excitement. Memes, reaction threads, and fan art are circulating, with some comparing Iwobi’s move to that of other Nigerian sports stars who have successfully ventured into music. While some sceptics question whether athletes can be taken seriously in the music industry, the buzz alone suggests that curiosity and anticipation are on his side.

This EP represents more than just a celebrity side project; it’s a chance to watch a talented individual step outside his comfort zone and try something completely new. If successful, “More To Life” could open doors for other athletes to explore creative ventures, bridging sports, music, and personal branding in fresh ways.

As the release date approaches, there is a mix of excitement, curiosity, and scepticism. While some fans are eager to see a different side of the footballer, others are questioning whether athletes should venture into the already competitive Nigerian music industry. But if there’s anything Iwobi’s career has shown, it’s that he is not afraid to explore new paths.
